HOME DEPOT
Home Depot opened its first store in
1979, and has demonstrated tremendous growth in sales,
profits, and number of stores. Their growth has demanded
that the company feverishly develop and promote their
employees through some type of automated system.
JDLR began with a "Succession Planning"
file server application that tracked and identified high
performance associates who had the potential to become
new leaders for HD. The software, distributed to a mere
10 people, captured and tracked a magnitude of HR
information including details on how to "grow" the
skills and knowledge of existing District Managers and
Merchants through very unique and specific development
plans for each employee.
As HD continued to grow, JDLR moved the
file server software to the WAN with a SQL server
backend that spanned across 8 different divisional
offices in the USA and Canada supporting roughly 150
users. Due to their continued growth, by 1999 HD needed
to allow system access to additional HR managers, and
also wanted employees to have "self service" access to
their own personal data.
JDLR is currently gearing up to allow
130,000 associates access to their own information from
a PC at home or work. This will be accomplished by
re-engineering the software to run on HDs intranet. JDLR
has consulted and provided services to HD on this
project since 1997 and has been maintained by HD because
of our continuous successes with each of these growth
transitions.
Through the development of the intranet
interface, JDLR is transferring knowledge to existing HD
IT staff so that they will be able to maintain the
system in the future.
